As part of the presidential initiative for human development, “A New Beginning for Human Development,” launched on September 17, 2024, Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, announced the participation of the Ministry and various universities and higher education and scientific research institutions in the presidential initiative. This comes as part of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s continued active participation in all presidential initiatives.
The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research confirmed that Egyptian universities have begun implementing a package of activities and events consistent with the goals of the presidential initiative. These include a number of themes, most notably enhancing national security, investing in human capital, developing a competitive economy, improving the health system, providing better education, securing decent employment opportunities, and enhancing social protection.
Dr. Ayman Ashour explained that the Ministry is working in coordination with all state agencies and institutions, governorates, and various regions of the Republic to achieve the initiative’s objectives, thus generating positive results that citizens will feel within a short period of time. He emphasized that there is ongoing integration and coordination with all relevant ministries and agencies, such as: Health, Education, Endowments, Culture, Social Solidarity, Youth and Sports, in addition to many civil society institutions.
The Minister added that there is a convergence and compatibility between the objectives of the “New Beginning for Human Development” initiative and the principles of the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research, especially the principles of effective participation, sustainability, communication, innovation, and entrepreneurship. He pointed out that the Ministry of Higher Education’s participation in the “New Beginning” presidential initiative aims to serve the seven geographical regions, in implementation of the “Alliance and Development” presidential initiative, which includes (Greater Cairo, Alexandria, Delta, Suez Canal, North Upper Egypt, Central Upper Egypt, and South Upper Egypt).
Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, explained that public universities have successfully launched 64 comprehensive development convoys, providing services to 86,141 citizens from various age groups and segments of society.
The Delta region universities, which include (Tanta University, Mansoura University, Menoufia University, Damietta University, Kafr El-Sheikh University, and Sadat City University), organized 15 development convoys that provided their services to (30,297) citizens.
The universities of the Middle Upper Egypt region, including Assiut and New Valley, succeeded in serving 9,348 citizens by launching 5 comprehensive development convoys.
As for the universities of the southern Upper Egypt region, which includes the universities of (South Valley, Sohag, Luxor, and Aswan), they launched 18 comprehensive development convoys that provided their various services to (7,975) citizens.
The universities of Alexandria region, including (Alexandria University, Matrouh University, Damanhour University) implemented 6 comprehensive development convoys, from which (3773) citizens benefited.
The universities of the Upper Egypt region, including (South Valley University, Sohag University, Luxor University, Aswan University), launched 18 comprehensive development convoys, whose services benefited (7,975) citizens.
The most prominent activities of the universities came within the framework of implementing the presidential initiative for human development “A New Beginning for Human Development” in providing medical services through fixed and mobile clinics for free examination of citizens in various medical specialties, including (neurosurgery, pediatrics, orthopedics, dermatology, internal medicine, urology, ear, nose and throat, general surgery, chest diseases, psychiatry and neurology, ophthalmology, cardiovascular clinic, reproductive health, and dentistry).
