How Do Micro-Credentials Improve Employability? Inspiring Lessons for the “Be Ready” Initiative”

In today’s job market, both students and employers are looking for practical, efficient ways to close the gap between education and work. A new report shared by Coursera highlights the strong impact of industry micro-credentials in boosting graduate readiness and reducing training costs.

The report shows that students with these credentials earn 16% higher starting salaries than their peers. These industry-focused, practical programs help reduce the time needed to transition into a job by up to 30%.

On the employer side, 81% say micro-credentials make job candidates more work-ready. Companies that adopt these programs reduce their internal training costs by 34%. Most importantly, 9 out of 10 students report that earning these credentials improved their confidence.

These results highlight the importance of aligning academic training with real industry needs—exactly what the “Be Ready” initiative aims to do. Through practical, hands-on training, and developing both technical and cognitive skills, we prepare students and graduates for the jobs of the future.
